Tahoe Nugget #21:
Geese in flight
You know a Sierra winter is getting close when the birds and animals start acting nervous. Not human nervous, they have purpose. Survival. Lake
Tahoe does not freeze so this region is a water fowl-friendly place. As long as the creatures can tolerate strong storm events with wind-driven rain and snow, as well as cold nights for six months a year, life is
good.
Although it is relatively lush and of an alpine nature, Lake Tahoe is only one small piece of the generally arid Great Basin mosaic, a harsh yet grand
place, unique in North America, and depending on your perspective, maybe unique in the world.
